The transport from your hotel to the Timbwani Baptist School can be arranged either by yourself via Uber or by a taxi sent by the project team. However the taxi fare has to be covered by the visitor. Uber taxi should be booked one-way only in advance. The Uber taxi for the return to the hotel can be booked during the visit at the orphanage . We would like to avoid that visitors have to negotiate prices with taxi drivers we don't know. Therefore we have agreed with destinct taxi drivers of the Ukunda area a flat rate for 3,5 hours of 4.500 KeS plus 500 KeS for 30 minutes extension.

Our solution: Scan the QR codes in our "Flyer for Visitors" for direct Google Maps navigation to both locations.

Getting from Timbwani Baptist School to the rescue centre is easy: you can either enjoy a 5 to 10 minute walk alongside one of our team members, or take a local Tuk-Tuk. If you have hired a taxi for your entire stay, you are of course welcome to use it. However, walking or taking a Tuk-Tuk is a wonderful opportunity to experience daily life in the neighborhood surrounding the school and rescue centre.

Yes, we highly recommend bringing your own bottled drinking water. The weather in Mombasa is usually very warm, so staying hydrated is important. Please note that the local tap water must be boiled before drinking.

No, specific prior experience is not required. A big heart, joy in working with children, and flexibility in daily life are the most important prerequisites.

The wifi network is accessible throughout the accommodation. At monthly cost of 1.500 KeS, the volunteer can buy a data package. If more than one volunteer is in the guest house the costs can be shared between them.
