Our Story
Likoni Aid for Children Centre was founded in 2000 by Reverend Ernest Ombeva Anzani out of a profound commitment to transform the lives of vulnerable and orphaned children in the Likoni community.
Originally, Reverend Ombeva lived in his family home with his wife and their seven children. In 2000, they opened their doors to the first orphaned children. As the number of children in need grew and his own children grew up and moved out, the house evolved into a dedicated sanctuary. Reverend Ombeva and his wife eventually moved into a rented house to free up more space. Today, their original family home serves completely as a rescue centre, providing a safe haven for 36 children and their caregivers.
We are blessed with a unique and powerful foundation: Reverend Ombeva manages the rescue centre and the school alongside four of his daughters. This close-knit family leadership ensures an environment built on absolute trust, dedication, and love.
Recognizing that shelter alone is not enough to break the cycle of poverty, we established the Timbwani Baptist School. Together, our rescue centre and school work hand-in-hand to provide a safe haven, a loving family environment, and quality education.
Over the years, we have grown from a small rescue initiative into a beacon of hope, empowering children to build bright, independent futures.

Mission
Our mission is two-fold: To provide orphaned and vulnerable children with a secure home, nutritious meals, and holistic healthcare at the Likoni Aid for Children Centre, while delivering high-quality, values-based education at the Timbwani Baptist School. We nurture every child’s emotional, physical, and intellectual growth, ensuring they have the tools to thrive.
Legal Status / Registration
Likoni Aid for Children Centre is a fully registered, non-profit charitable organization under the laws of Kenya (Registration No: NCCS, CNo. 0174). The Timbwani Baptist School is officially recognized and registered with the Ministry of Education. We operate with strict financial transparency and adherence to child welfare regulations, ensuring that every donation directly impacts the lives of our children.
The validity extension of the certrtificate is in a final phase. All local authorities have been finalized their inspections. All required messures have been completed. We are now awaiting for the update of the certificate from the ministry in Nairobi.

Likoni AID for Children Centre - Rescue Centre
The Likoni Aid for Children Centre provides essential care, housing and education for 36 orphaned and vulnerable children aged 3 to 16 years.
Our dedicated rescue centre team consists of loving housemothers, caregivers, kitchen staff, and social workers. Led by our administration, they work around the clock to create a warm, family-oriented atmosphere where every child feels chosen, safe, and deeply loved.
Dinnah and Dorine, both daughters of Ernest Ombeva, lead our rescue centre team with dedication and compassion. During the day, they are supported by Sophia, Ruth and Wilson who handle essential tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and washing clothes and dishes. At night, Dorcas and Habel take over to care for the children and ensure their safety.

The Centre is located in the heart of Likoni, Mombasa (Kenya). Situated in a vibrant yet economically challenged area, our facility serves as a peaceful sanctuary for children, safely tucked away from the hardships of the surrounding streets. We provide a nurturing home for our children, including clean and secure dormitories, three nutritious meals a day, clean drinking water, and comprehensive medical care. Beyond their physical needs, we focus heavily on emotional healing, offering counseling and a vibrant family life filled with play, music, and shared chores.
Hearts of Likoni AID: Impressions of daily life
Among our most urgent needs at the center are funding for daily food supplies, medical care for the children, and the expansion of our dormitories to be able to accommodate more children in emergency situations.
The next project will be the installation of our own PV system for power generation. Following the completion of the "clean drinking water" project, we are now assessing the feasibility of installing our own PV system. The power grid is not always stable, and having our own solar power system (4 monocrystalline panels of 400 W each) with a battery storage (4 kWh) and a 5 kW hybrid inverter (48 V) would reduce running electricity costs and increase our power reliability.

Timbwani Baptist Primary and Secondary School
Timbwani Baptist Primary School, founded in 1992 by Reverend Ombeva under the Timbwani Baptist Church, is a community-based educational institution located in the sprawling slums of Likoni in the coastal town of Mombasa, Kenya.
Today, the school serves over 150 children from the surrounding area. Most of these students come from families trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty; many can hardly afford a single meal a day.
As a private, church-initiated school, Timbwani Baptist Primary relies heavily on school fees paid by parents. However, due to severe financial hardship, most families struggle to pay these fees. This leaves the school in a critical financial state with extremely limited funds to pay staff salaries, maintain or renovate buildings, and purchase essential school furniture.
Our school is led by a team of qualified, passionate, and government-certified teachers who are deeply committed to child-centered learning. Currently, 15 dedicated teachers educate and guide our pupils.
Supported by our administrative team, our educators go above and beyond to provide individual attention to students coming from challenging backgrounds.The school is administered by Ann Cheritt and Diana Zoe, the daughters of Reverend Ernest Ombeva. Gertrude Minayo serves as our Head Teacher, supported by Mr. David Elian as Deputy Head Teacher.

The Timbwani Baptist School is located in 10 minutes walking distance to the Likoni Aid Centre. This close proximity ensures that our resident orphans have a seamless, safe transition from home to the classroom, while also opening our doors to vulnerable children from the local neighborhood.The QR code will guide you with Google Maps to the Timbwani Baptist School and Church.
The school has 11 classrooms for the different school levels:
- Pre-School: Ages 3–6
- Primary (Grades 1–3): Ages 6–9
- Primary (Grades 4–6): Ages 10–13
- Junior Secondary (Grades 7–9): Ages 13–16
On the fenced school ground, we also have a building for the teachers and a church hall.
The Timbwani Baptist Primary School is fully registered and officially recognized by the Kenyan government authorities. Our legal compliance and educational standards are verified through two official certificates:
Business Registration: According to the Certificate of Registration under the Registration of Business Names Act (Business No. BN-35C7KEMQ), the school is officially registered as a recognized entity by the Assistant Registrar in Nairobi.
Ministry of Education Recognition:: The Certificate of Registration of Schools issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (Republic of Kenya) under Registration Number PE/4456/09 officially certifies the school's classification as a Nursery and Primary School.
As stated in the official Ministry document, the school is authorized to provide instruction up to Std 8 and is formally permitted to conduct the K.P.E. (Kenya Primary Education) examinations. This ensures that all certificates and qualifications obtained by our students are fully state-recognized and valid for further educational pathways.

We follow the official Kenyan National Curriculum (Competency Based Curriculum - CBC), offering comprehensive primary education. In addition to core academic subjects like English, Mathematics, and Sciences, our curriculum places a strong emphasis on character building, spiritual growth, creative arts, and practical life skills
Bright Horizons: Learning at Likoni Baptist School.
To maintain our high educational standards, our immediate needs include school textbooks, learning materials, and sponsorships for local community children who cannot afford school fees. Our main upcoming project is the renovation of our school library and the purchase of computers for basic IT literacy.
